Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare for rig lease operations
  2. Operate pneumatic and electric power tools
  3. Assist drill crew in running and recovery of blow out prevention stack
  4. Provide labour for loading and unloading transport
  5. Provide labour for making up drilling mud

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of rig lease operations including:

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

controlling identified hazards

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues

preparing written records and reports

rectifying and/or reporting faults and malfunctions

works effectively with others to undertake and complete rig lease operations that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

demonstrates completion of rig lease operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

selecting and fitting correct stinger/slings appropriate for loads

transferring equipment by forklift

placing, measuring, labelling and recording details of tubular

assisting in running/recovery of blow out prevention stack

operating air tugger winch if required

assisting in supply of transport equipment to drill floor and loading/unloading

mixing drilling fluid


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following in carrying out rig lease operations through:

compliance with legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for carrying out rig lease operations for:

identification and management of risks

identification and management of environmental issues

set up for work activity

site isolation, signage and erecting barriers

work health and safety

identification of faults, all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

specifications for work

drill floor operations

safe operational practices undertaking numerical tasks involving measurement, e.g. tapes, rulers, calibration devices
